Refugee Week

Cousin, Aunty, myself and Mother

As a proud daughter of a (former) refugee and in honour of Refugee Week, a big THANK YOU goes out to my mum, aunty and cousin for their bravery in search for a better life.

They were a part of the mass exodus that resulted in the years after the Fall of Saigon or Fall of South Vietnam. Risked their lives to escape the reunified Vietnam's communist regime by fishing boat to find refuge in a foreign country they knew nothing about and started afresh.

I wouldn't be here today enjoying the basic human rights that so many people take forgranted if it weren't for them. And a big shoutout to the late Malcolm Fraser for having the compassion big enough to take them in.

If only we had more compassionate politicians today.

I stand with refugees.

Lots o' Love, Linda
